Guided Drawing® - Bilateral Body Mapping

Invitation to make a mess on paper! We’ll be using the unique Sensorimotor Art Therapy® approach of Guided Drawing®, a largely non-verbal, body-focused approach to bilateral body mapping and trauma exploration.

Guided Drawing applies bilateral, rhythmic repetition in a ground-breaking, body-based way to heal trauma. Developed over the past 50 years it has become a uniquely effective therapeutic tool. Guided Drawing directs the attention to tracking the felt body-sensations. Inquirers are encouraged to becoming aware of what massage movements are needed to decrease pain, loosen bracing patterns and how to create sufficient safety for dissociated parts to reconnect. Such massage movements are rhythmic healing patterns, which can become a simple yet effective way of restoring the flow of life.

This body-mapping approach introduces bilateral drawing on large sheets of paper as a self-guided, rhythmic process. It is underpinned by an archetypal structure that applies universal, formal elements, like a line or a circle or a square to structure the experience for you. Using crayons, chalks, finger paints the process is less concerned with image making, but to foster the awareness of body memories.
